As our platform grows, so does the experience of our Hosts and the number of Superhosts who every day go above and beyond in their hosting duties to offer an outstanding hospitality experience to their guests.

Today, we celebrate a new milestone: 1 million Superhosts around the globe, providing exceptional hospitality across more than 200 different countries and territories representing more than 45 languages.

The Superhost program was created in 2014 to celebrate and reward the top-rated and most experienced Airbnb Hosts. Regardless of what kind of space they list on the platform – from a simple spare room to a sprawling estate – any Host can become a Superhost by consistently offering exceptional hospitality. And it pays off.

With the rising cost of living, people are especially interested in earning extra money through hosting. The Hosts who reach the Superhost status by offering outstanding hospitality and achieving specific quality standards can typically enjoy an even higher hosting income. From July through September 2022 the typical Superhost earned 64 percent more than a regular Host1. Their secret:

  • Maintain a high overall rating Superhosts have a 4.8 or higher average overall rating based on reviews from Airbnb guests in the past year.
  • Be experienced – Superhosts have hosted at least 10 stays in the past year.
  • Avoid cancellations – Superhosts cancel less than 1% of the time.
  • Be responsive – Superhosts respond to 90% of new, booking-related messages within 24 hours.

“After years of traveling as guests ourselves, we know what it takes to make an Airbnb stay great”

Teddy, Superhost from High Falls, New York

The love and attention that Teddy and his wife put in their country house in the Hudson River Valley emerges in the reviews of their guests.  “It’s the kind of house that makes you go ‘wow I wish I owned this house!’” says one guest. “It has a lot of cool little spaces,” says another one, “lots of great plants and many interesting, funky decorative touches. There’s a great collection of vinyl and some interesting books and plenty of games. The backyard is beautiful, and we loved the deck and the hot tub and the fire pit. Teddy was very welcoming, gracious, and responsive.”

Sharing the place is clearly a labor of love, but hosting has also yielded Teddy financial and lifestyle rewards that have grown over time2. “Initially, it helped pay our mortgage,” Teddy says. “Now it also helps us reinvest in the house to make it better. Hosting has [also] given me more financial flexibility, and [enabled me] to not be dependent on my main job.”

Commitment to excellence

From October 2021 through September 20223 Superhosts have had over 45 million check-ins globally earning collectively over $23 billion in income on Airbnb. But great results come from hard work. Becoming a Superhost requires dedication, consistency and a commitment to excellence.

“Shaping the guest’s experience around guests feedback is important to any business’s success.”

Stuart, Superhost from Little Rock, Arkansas

“We have a small whiteboard that welcomes guests but also asks for feedback. Little things you might not think about like an extra night light or fold out chair, etc. Using that feedback has gone a long way,” says Stuart, who created a private guest suite in his house, in a quiet neighborhood of West Little Rock, AR.

It didn’t take long for bookings and rave reviews to follow, and Stuart became a Superhost.

The rewards have been substantial, Stuart says: “My Airbnb earnings have consistently paid for my mortgage and utilities4.”

Just like Stuart, now Airbnb counts 1 million Superhosts who every day go the extra mile to deliver a great hospitality experience.
